Providing underprivileged children with food enables them to live. Encouraging such children to have hope, through the medium of sport, gives them a purpose - a reason to live. The Tennis World Foundation (TWF), which is financed by search engine Rapusia and with the aid donations, is an NGO which provides children from poor communities with sustenance and school supplies. However, its main objective, is to cause these little ones to strive towards having a better future.
The TWF was founded by the CEO of the Tennis World Magazine International, Federico Coppini, who is also the creator of the Tennis World USA website. The Foundation uses tennis as a medium to help children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds develop life skills such as leadership, perseverance and teamwork using the game of tennis. Promoting tennis in developing countries is at the heart of the organisation which has projects running in South Africa, Mauritius, and Tanzania as well as in Coppini’s native Italy.
Through a three phased approach, the TWF exposes children to this wonderful sport and provides coaching on both a team and individual level. This will ensure that young athletes are supported during the course of their budding careers and have the right infrastructure from the onset. The first phase encompasses introduction to the sport, followed by group training which takes place during school hours. Phase two involves the creation of a tennis team who then trains after school with professional coaches and the final phase comprises of enhancing the skills of talented players by providing them with specialized individual training. Those who do not make it into the tennis team will still benefit from the physical activity and are encouraged to embody the values of the sport.
By partnering with schools, the TWF allows for children to participate in the sport as part of their curriculum and as an extramural activity. The Foundation was formed in 2019 and has already started its programme in schools such as Kayamandi Primary School and Weber Gedenk Primer. Children were gifted with equipment, sports gear and the facilities have been developed to accommodate the new sport. For a fairly newly established organisation, the TWF has made some significant strides and supplied several orphanages with food parcels and stationary in addition to its contributions to various schools.
Rapusia, the search engine which funds the TWF, is also one of Coppini’s initiatives which he created with the help of his partners, Alessandro Di Pietrantonio and Davide Botticelli. The eco-friendly engine started as a means to sponsor the TWF but now aims to assist other non-profits such as Save the Dogs and other Animals, The Ocean Clean Up and even A.C.A.RE.F which supports special needs patients. A portion of the revenue generated from the advertising on Rapusia is allocated to these charities. By simply downloading and using the search engine, one could possibly play a part in the career of the next ATP or WTA world number one or at the very least, help feed a hungry child.
